Tutorial - The Fairy Skirt

Just as I promised yesterday, I bring you a tutorial for this lovely skirt! I gotta say, I just enjoy wearing it, the way flows when I walk...beautiful! The secret is about the fabric. I used muslin, two layers of it. I´ve also put a layer of another maching fabric that is not so transparent.

So, if you want to sew it too, here is what you´re going to do:
The skirt has 3 layers - two from muslin and one from another fabric. I guess if your main fabric is not so transparent like mine was you can do it without this third layer. But you definitly have to go with two layers of muslin, it looks much nicer than just one. You will need 4 pieces of muslin fabric 40x30 inches and 2 pieces of another, non-transparent fabric, also 40x30 inches.
I must admit, here in Europe is much simpler (and cheaper) to buy this amount of fabric ´cause the width of fabrics in our stores is between 135 and 150 cm ( wich is cca 54-60 inches).

And you will also need some lastik band, mine was 20 inches long.

Lay down all of your six pieces of fabric.

Cut the corners like in a picture above.

Sew it.

Take all 6 layers together, mark it with pins and sew it at the top.

Sew lastik band to get the circle.

Adjust your machine to a strait stitch, in the longest stitch length available. Sew two parallel lines down the side of your strip, leaving long threads at the ends. Then take the bottom (bobbin) threads and pull them with one hand, while gently pushing your fabric away from them with the other hand. Now you have to arrange your gathers so that they are even and that they fits your hips.

Sew lastik band to skirt.

Spring flower boots

For this project you will need two 60˝x 6˝ pieces of fabric and 38˝ of satin ribbon.

Sew zig-zag stitch along the one of the longer edges of fabric.

Carefully cut the rest of the fabric.

Turn shorter edges right side together and sew them.

Measure the width of your boot top. Mine was 19˝ so I cut 19˝ long ribbon piece. Adjust your machine to a strait stitch, in the longest stitch length available. 1.5˝ from the top of your fabric (the one you didn´t sew with zigzag)  sew two parallel lines down the side of your strip, leaving long threads at the ends. Then take the bottom (bobbin) threads and pull them with one hand, while gently pushing your fabric away from them with the other hand. Now you have to arrange your gathers so that they are even. This should be 19˝ long, same as ribbon.

Sew the ribbon over that seam.

Now you have to place you ruffle and hot glue it to the boot.

Classy stitch markers

I started to knitt and to crochet two years ago but I still didn´t have stitch markers. Then I got the idea how to use some of my broken jewelry. It was quick and easy.

Crochet leg warmers pattern

Since I´ve learned how to crochet a few month ago, I´ve been really enjoying in this "take it anywhere with you" craft. This leg warmers were so sweet, I couldn´t resist to share it with you. It´s pretty easy and takes little time to make so it´s perfect even for beginners. It's a good first project!

I am not going to go to the basics of crochet. First of all, I am a beginner myself and second, there are really good crochet lessons out there in the blogland. My favorite is Crochet school at Craftyminx! It is free and it is REALLY REALLY GREAT! So, go there!

Back to my leggins...
Please bear with me as I am not a crochet pattern writer and this is actually first crochet pattern I have written. If you notice something that might improve the pattern, please speak up. I would love to edit it to make it better.

Here it goes:

Size: 4-7 years, lower circumference 8 in. (20.5 cm), middle circumference 9 in. (23.5 cm), finished length 11 in. (28 cm)
Yarn: 1 skein
Hook: Size G
Stitches: sc, hdc
ch. 27
Round 1: Sc in first chain, forming a loop and sc in next 26, join with sl st in top of beginning ch (27)

Round 2-3: Ch. 2 turn, hdc in each st around, join with sl st in top of beginning ch(27)
Round 4: Ch. 2, turn, hdc in next 7 st`s, 2hdc in next, hdc in next 8 st`s, 2hdc in next, hdc in next 8 st`s, 2hdc in next, join with sl st in top of beginning ch(30)
Round 5-23: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each hdc around; join with sl st in top of turning ch(30)

Round 24: Ch 2, turn, hdc in next 7 st’s, hdc decrease, hdc in next 8 st’s, hdc decrease, hdc in next 8 st’s, hdc decrease(27)

Round 25: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st around, join with sl st in top of beginning ch(27)

Round 26. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around, join with sl st in top of beginning ch(27)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Now you have to add bobbles.
I made mine with 1 inch spacing between. This is how you´re going to do it:
Insert a hook in a place you want to make a bobble:
Ch3, 4dc in the same st, leaving the last loop of each stitch on the hook. Yarn over and draw a loop through all 5 loops on the hook.

Weave in all your tails...and you're done!

Vintage watch-necklace

Ok, I admit, first you have to be really really lucky to have a vintage watch like this by your hand:-) and I guess it´s a hardest part of this DIY. Once you have it, the rest is easy peasy.

Attach thin, 5 inches long satin ribbon and 2 pieces of thin chain each 2.5 inches to the bottom of the watch.

Place a thin, 27.5 inches long chain through the upper part of the watch.

Voila!

"Pin Up My Heart" Applique

This one was really easy!

You will need: T-shirt, safety pins, scrap of fabric and fabric glue.

First, I´ve applied a tiny layer of glue on the edges so it wouldn´t fray.

Then, apply glue on both, scrap and shirt, and glue them together. Let it dry. And just add safety pins.

I) ve made this for my sweet cousin. I think she would love it!
